Jetstar to serve Dunedin

Posted by Travel Memo on 13 May 2011 | 0 Comments

From 14JUL, subject to regulatory approval, Dunedin will become Jetstar’s fifth New Zealand domestic port. It wants to introduce a new daily Auckland-Dunedin A320 service that will break the monopoly on the route. A Qantas code share will also operate on the route. Jetstar is offering every day web fares between AKL and DUD from $99, up to 40% lower than its competitor.

Jetstar Group CEO Bruce Buchanan says the new route will be a key link to its large Auckland hub, offering daily international connections to Australia and a fast expanding
Pan Asian network through a daily Auckland-Singapore A330 service.

“Jetstar will grow the market between Dunedin and Auckland by 46 per cent, bringing low fares and choice back for travelLers,” Mr Buchanan said. The airline’s Australia & NZ CEO David Hall said Jetstar was growing its NZ domestic network at a critical time for the local tourism industry ahead of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
